Allow Safe Work Area Around Transformers
Pad-mounted electric transformers aren't necessarily pretty. But they are necessary to reliable electric service. Your first instinct may be to hide your transformer with landscaping or a fence.
Before you get out the shovel, however, please remember that KUB crews need safe access for routine maintenance and to restore power during outages. Working in a confined space between an open transformer and shrubbery or other obstructions can be dangerous for crews and slow power restoration efforts.
Please keep any fencing, landscaping, or other obstructions at least six feet away from the front of the transformer and three feet from the back and sides. Crews must remove obstructions within that safety zone during maintenance. And KUB will not replace the landscaping, fence, etc.
