Both the Department of Energy (DOE) and the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) are federal resources on available alternative fuel options.

In the market for a new car? The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has a Green Vehicle Guide that compares air emissions, fuel consumption, and more. Also, fueleconomy.gov is a joint EPA/DOE website that provides tools for comparing vehicles.

Electric vehicles have been all over the news lately! Nissan's all-electric Leaf will be available in Knoxville starting in December 2010. Also, the Chevy Volt will hit the market around the same time. Customers in the Knoxville, Nashville, and Chattanooga areas who decide to buy a Leaf might be eligible for free home charging equipment through a federal grant awarded to ECOtality. The ECOtality project will also include solar-assisted charging stations! For more general information about electric vehicles, check out the East Tennessee Clean Fuels Coalition and the Knoxville Electric Vehicle Association Web sites.

Knox Area Transit and SmartTrips provide information on public transportation and carpooling, respectively.
