Renewable Energy at KUB

Supporting the development of clean energy resources is a key part of KUB’s strategy to help create a greener future for the communities it serves. KUB is proud to be a regional leader in its support for solar power and is working to bring online 400MW of solar energy over the next several years. KUB launched Knoxville’s first Community Solar project in 2023, a 1 MW array developed in partnership with the City of Knoxville.  KUB now works to support additional solar projects through TVA’s Green Invest and Generation Flexibility programs.

TVA’s Green Invest program allows companies to support new-to-the world solar projects in partnership with TVA. In 2020, KUB became the first local power company to participate in the program. Since the program was launched, KUB has secured projects for 337 MW on behalf of all KUB customers.

Twenty megawatts of KUB’s Green Invest capacity will be developed in conjunction with the TVA Generation Flexibility program, which allows KUB to supply up to five percent of its own electric load with renewable energy and offset power costs from TVA. KUB is deploying an additional 62 MW of KUB-led projects through the Generation Flexibility program, some of which will be developed locally in Knoxville.
