Appliances

You will be anxious to get appliances up and running, but be cautious. As mentioned in our During a Power Outage section, you should have turned off all appliances that were running when the power went out (except one light). When the power is back on, you can turn your appliances back on one at a time. This will prevent an overload of the electrical system in your home, and of KUB’s electrical system in your area. Overloading the system could cause another outage.

Heat Pumps

Follow these steps if your heat pump was without power for more than three hours during the winter:

  • Set your system on heat or auto at 60 degrees
  • Raise your thermostat in two degree increments until you reach your preferred setting (this prevents the emergency heat from coming on and also helps prevent damage to your unit).
