New Service

KUB’s New Service department is the entry point into KUB for customers who are either seeking new electric, gas, water or wastewater service or are seeking to upgrade or relocate existing utility facilities. Customers looking to start service at a home or business that is already connected to KUB's system can use the online start/stop service tools.

Start/Stop Service at an Existing Residence

Customers can call KUB's New Construction team at 865-558-2555 or fill out the online form to place an order for a new service, relocation, or upgrade.

Start Service for New Construction

KUB will then follow the general process outlined below.

  • A New Service Representative will contact the customer within two business days to discuss the customer’s project and set up an on-site meeting. The representative will review the customer’s site, gather information, and determine how to proceed. They may also mark the construction site for a Tennessee One Call notification.
  • The representative will provide the estimated cost of construction to the customer along with any necessary agreements and/or easement documents.
  • Once the customer returns any necessary documentation and payment is secured, the representative will coordinate with KUB's construction departments.
  • If the request involves a new or upgraded electric or gas meter, then an inspection from the authority having jurisdiction (such as Knox County Codes Administration and Enforcement) will be required prior to the meter being installed.
  • Additional steps may be necessary by either KUB or the customer such as engineering design services, additional permitting, or third-party work.
