Application for electrical permits and fees

On behalf of the State of Tennessee, KUB is able to assist with the purchase of State Electrical Permits for addresses in Knox County and outlying counties.

Electrical permits for addresses within Knoxville city limits must be purchased from the City of Knoxville directly by contacting the city at 311 or 865-215-2857.

To obtain a State Electrical Permit and Inspection

A state licensed electrician or homeowner may purchase a permit using one of the following methods:

  • Visit the State of Tennessee’s permit site at core.tn.gov (Available 24 hours a day, seven days a week)
  • Call the State of Tennessee’s permit office at 615-741-7170 (Available Monday–Friday 7 a.m.-4:30 p.m. CST)
  • Visit the KUB Service Center located at 4428 Western Ave. (Available Monday-Friday 8:30 a.m.-noon EST)

Once the permit has been purchased, contact the State of Tennessee at 615-741-7170 to schedule an inspection, or go online to core.tn.gov.

State of Tennessee Electrical Permit Fees

Current pricing for electrical permits is subject to change as directed by the State of Tennessee. KUB charges a $5 handling fee per electrical permit. Each service address must have a separate permit.

From 601 - 1,000 amp service   $90

 

Inspections

You must contact the State of Tennessee when you are ready to for an inspection by visiting core.tn.gov or by calling 615-741-7170 Mon- Fri 8am-4:30pm(CST).

 

Inspection Fees

For each rough-in inspection — $35
Inspection of a dwelling unit’s heating and/or cooling system — $35
Reinspection based on rejection of a 1-1,000 ampere capacity — $35
